At the farm

The dry creek that became a river: what happened to our road over the holiday

3 min readPlayaMagma

Between November 1 and 2, a creek that is dry most of the year washed away a stretch of the road to the farm. The farm is fine. Here is how neighbors and guests sorted it out together, and how to get here now.

First, the important part: the farm was not damaged. The cabins and common areas are fine. What did suffer was the access road, in one specific stretch.

What happened

Over the holiday, between November 1 and 2, the rain was very heavy. On a downhill stretch of the road to the farm there is a creek that is dry most of the year. The rain turned it into a rushing river, and the force of the water washed that stretch of road away.

How we sorted it out

Some vehicles were stuck on the other side. Neighbors and guests got together and, between all of us, we got them across. Then we built a footbridge: wooden planks over a log, so people can cross the river safely on foot.

How to get to the farm now

Access to the farm is fine, with one change: you leave your vehicle parked before the river and walk the rest of the way to the farm, crossing on the footbridge.
