You're not booking a room. You're booking a whole farm.
A hotel gives you a door and a corridor. We give you eleven thousand square metres of tropical rainforest: trails, hammocks strung between the trees, a yoga shala, a communal kitchen, a temazcal, and a bonfire that gets lit most nights. Your cabin is where you sleep. The farm is where you are.
How it started
The name says it all: Playa (Beach) + Magma. The calm of the sea at the end of the road, and the energy of the earth that sustains everything that grows and is built here. PlayaMagma was born as a living farm, in permanent construction, where every cabin, every trail and every piece of furniture from our own carpentry workshop tells part of its story. Our gardens grow food for the house, biodigesters process organic waste, and the tropical rainforest around us remains exactly where it always was: untouched.
PlayaMagma is not a conventional hotel. It's a place for those seeking real nature (not decorative), tranquility without boredom, comfort without empty luxury, community with purpose, and experiences that stay with you.

Five elements. Six cabins. No two alike.
We built them ourselves in guadúa cane, teak and brick, and each one carries the name of the element that defines it. Every cabin has air conditioning, hot water and a private bathroom: the rustic part is the materials, not the comfort.
All of this comes with any cabin
Nobody pays extra for the shala, the bonfire, the hammocks or the communal kitchen. You book a place to sleep and the whole farm opens up.
Communal kitchen
Available to all guests. If you'd rather not cook, arrange in advance for a local cook to prepare traditional Manabí dishes made with fresh local ingredients.

Outdoor area for barbecues and open-air gatherings.
Hammock area
Hammocks strung between tropical trees — the ideal spot to read, rest, or simply be.
Yoga shala
A space dedicated to yoga, meditation and wellness, available for guests, groups and retreats.

Our own sustainable production, part of the farm's daily operation.

Some nights, the fire is the plan
The name of the farm isn't decoration. The Pacific is minutes away; the fire gets lit as the afternoon drops, in the fire pit or in the temazcal. You don't need to believe in anything to sit around it: sometimes it's a guided ceremony, sometimes it's six people who met today talking until late. Both count.

Quiet doesn't mean boring
From June to September humpback whales pass right off this coast. Twenty minutes away is Los Frailes, the most beautiful beach in mainland Ecuador. There's surf in Ayampe, snorkelling at Los Ahorcados, a waterfall upriver, sunrise horse rides, and a small town full of people who cook extremely well.

A Manabí cook, someone to run the grill, daily housekeeping and laundry. Arranged in advance and charged separately — but if you came here to actually rest, they're worth every dollar.

Book the whole farm, with nobody else here
All six cabins, the shala, the temazcal, the communal kitchen and every trail, reserved for your group alone. Up to 23 people sleeping over, quite a few more for a daytime event. People book it for yoga retreats, company offsites, big birthdays and small weddings.

The practical part, no fine print

Getting here
900 metres off the Ruta del Spondylus (E15), on the mountain side. From Guayaquil, 2.5 to 3.5 hours by car; from Puerto López, 20 minutes; from Montañita, 15. A regular car gets you here and there's parking inside the farm.

What's included
Your cabin with air conditioning, hot water and a private bathroom, plus every common area: shala, temazcal, fire pit, hammocks, communal kitchen, dining area and grill. No hidden charges for using the farm.

Times
Check-in from 3pm, check-out by 11am. At Christmas, New Year, Carnival and Easter we ask for a 3-night minimum. If you need to arrive earlier or leave later, just ask.

How booking works
Over WhatsApp with us, or through Airbnb — whichever you prefer. A booking is confirmed only once it's paid. The prices on this site apply to bank transfer or cash.
